What You Need for a Car Title Loan in Texas
A Texas car title loan doesn't require much paperwork, but a few items have to be in order before a lender can fund you. Here's the short checklist and what each piece means.
The short checklist
Bring these four things to your nearest DTL store and you can usually be in and out the same day:
• A lien-free vehicle title in your name. • A valid government-issued photo ID. • Basic proof of income. • The vehicle itself, for a quick inspection.
What a lien-free title means
A lien-free title means the vehicle is fully paid off and no other lender is currently listed on the title. The title also needs to be in your name — not a relative's, not a former owner's. If you recently bought the car, make sure the title transfer with the Texas DMV is complete before you apply.
If your title isn't fully paid off yet, talk to us anyway. In some cases there are still options, but the standard product requires a clear title.
Accepted IDs
We accept any valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID. The most common are a Texas driver license, a Texas ID card, a U.S. passport, a passport from another country, or a Matrícula Consular. The name on your ID should match the name on the title.
Proof of income
Proof of income shows the lender you can comfortably handle the scheduled payments. It does not have to be a traditional W-2 job. Pay stubs, recent bank statements, Social Security or disability benefits letters, self-employment records, and other documented income sources are commonly accepted. Bring whatever you have — our team will help you figure out what counts.
Vehicle inspection and condition
We'll do a brief in-person inspection of the vehicle to confirm its condition matches what's on the title and to help determine value. The car should be operational and reasonably clean. There's no need to detail it — we're checking VIN, mileage, and overall condition.
Applying online vs. in-store
You can start your estimate online in about a minute and finish in-store, or you can walk in cold during business hours. Either way, the title transfer and signing happen at the store so the lender can verify the documents in person.
Next step
Once you've gathered the items above, get your estimate and we'll let you know what to bring to your nearest DTL store. Bilingual staff are available at every location.
